Day 8 - Los Arcos to Logrono (28km)

The Camino continues to cut a white line through the Spanish landscape although today the landscape varied slightly, becoming a patchwork of woods and pasture and vineyard over undulating countryside. We also travelled more along roads or sometimes just adjacent to them as we headed to the town of Logroño, larger than anywhere since Pamplona.  Logroño is the capital of the province of la Rioja - famous for its wine - which we crossed into as we approached the city.

Today needed an early start as we had nearly 30 kilometres to cover. We aimed to leave at 6.30am and the girls decided this meant a 6.00am rise. Keith and I were dubious: we opted for 5.45am much to the chagrin of Robin and Janna who were adamant they only needed 30 minutes to be ready. So a bet was struck: if we got up at 5.45am and were on the road by 6.15am then I would stand the girls to dinner. Well, I have never seen such a focus of organisation. The girls won the bet by thirty seconds. I like to think that if Keith had not woken everybody up five minutes early my money would have been safe (whose side was he on....?!). It was a very good meal though.....
