Day 15 - Burgos

Today was a rest day and what a great place to spend an extra day; Burgos is a city of pedestrian streets, ancient buildings and bridges, good restaurants and a fabulous cathedral. I will definitely be back.

Burgos Cathedral

Between us we spent a relaxed day sorting washing and personal admin before chilling with a coffee and then heading off for the cathedral, an impressive and beautiful structure set in a spacious square. It was two hours of ornate chapels in the massive expanse of the interior and the beauty of the cloisters, although once again I felt the conflict between the extravagance and richness of the art work and the poverty of those it was supposed to serve. Afterwards I headed off for a wander around the town and a visit to the local museum before heading back to meet the girls with the idea of setting out to dinner. This was hijacked somewhat by a visit to the flat Rob and Greg were renting where red wine, chicken and salad were on offer so, by the time we escaped, our dinner became a stand up affair in a local bar late in the evening; excellent food as ever but not as early and as relaxed as we had originally planned.

I am now packed and ready for the morning, when once again we head off walking. But not before I have one last night's sleep in a decent bed, in a room not shared with twenty others and a night spent without the accompanying snores and murmurings of other travellers.
